The couchers and credit card benefit allow a separate pay element to be used for Class 1A NIC. For a pay element to be linked, it required the Benefit in Kind flag. To create a pay element and assign it to a benefit, follow the sections below.

Create a pay element

  1. Create a pay element.

  2. Select the Benefit in Kind checkbox.

  • Benefit in Kind causes the values from the pay element to be included in the NICable pay for the Class 1A NIC calculation.

  • The value of the pay element will appear on the employee's payslip but will not be included in the earnings or net pay totals.

Assign to a benefit

  1. Click Payroll, and then click Employees.

  2. Find and select the required employee.

  3. Click Expenses, and then Benefits.

  4. Select the benefit and click Open Benefit.

  5. Click the Linked Pay Element magnifying glass icon.

  6. Click the Code magnifying glass icon.

  7. Double-click the benefit-in-kind pay element.

  8. Click Save and Close, then click Save and Close.
