If an employee is receiving an incorrect amount of SMP, this can be because the number of weeks to pay is incorrect.
When SMP is paid in whole weeks, rather than aligned to the pay date, the number of weeks to pay is calculated based on the number of weeks ending in the current period plus any previous periods that haven't been paid.
For example, if the employee's SMP payment start date is 19 June 2025, because this is a Thursday, all SMP weeks are calculated from Thursday to Wednesday.
Your configuration determines these dates. If you need to update this, follow the steps below.
Click the System tab then click Application Configuration.
Click Payroll Configuration.
Under Employee Defaults, set Calculate parental pay weeks to Earnings Period.
Click Save & Close.
Updating the configuration only applies to any new instances of parental pay. To update any ongoing SMP, you need to override the weeks.
Click Run Payroll then select the relevant employee.
Click the Parental Pay tab then update the Weeks to Pay.
